(New York: Graham & Matlack, 1913) |
The 19 illustrations and 10 pages of text in this oversized book come from two different children's versions of Stowe's novel. The black-and-white illustrations appeared in Graham & Matlack 63-page "Little Folks' Edition" of the novel, which also used on of the color illustrations on its cover (see THESE IMAGES). We haven't yet located another text using the color illustrations, which are very professional-looking in comparison to the crudeness of the black-and-white images.
The two versions alternate in ways that must have disconcerted children trying to follow the story, as you can see from the sequence of the illustrations available by clicking on the icons at left. In this edition several of the line drawings have been colored in crayon by a child.
