ABRIDGED FOR USE IN SCHOOLS WITH SIXTY ILLUSTRATIONS (Cleveland: The World Publishing Company, n.d. [c. 1920]) Actually only 41 illustrations, if you don't count the colored one on the dust jacket. And that, with its very stereotypical image, probably wasn't originally designed for use with this abridged edition. Many of the black and white engravings also have the look of being recycled from earlier editions of Uncle Tom's Cabin, though unlike many such cobbled editions, in this case they almost always match up with the retained parts of the text. |
